The best-known ski resorts here are, e.g., the Zillertal Arena, the Hintertuxer Glacier and Mayrhofen. Winter sportsmen can spend thrilling hours on the 662 kilometers of ski runs in the white winter wonderland. In the Zillertal, everyone can enjoy a vacation apartment, for the ski slopes offer various degrees of difficulty. The resorts offer 171 ski lifts, which carry skiers and snowboarders to the starts of runs. An especial highlight, which even the most experienced skiers do not always dare, is Austria’s steepest downhill slope, also called “Harakiri” because of its extreme 78 degree gradient. A vacation apartment in the Zillertal is also excellently suited for a pleasant summer holiday, as well with children. Here there are a variety of hiking trails and protected climbing routes. Among the hiking routes there are also some that can easily be completed with children. Especially enjoyable for children is a visit to the recreational park in Zell. On the 45,000 square meters of grounds there are many child-friendly attractions, among others a rapid giant slide, an adventure playground and a swimming pool with a wealth of playground equipment. And as well the leisure park Camping Aufenfeld offers beautiful afternoons with its exciting adventure pool. For hikers, the Zillertal is a veritable mecca, for numerous hiking trails and vie ferrata criss-cross the vast region. Anyone who wants higher vantage points can set off for the peaks on one of the many mountain railroads.
