=== St Austell Holiday Cottages ===
St Austell is one of Britain’s best lobed holiday destinations, and with good reason. The old market is just a short distance from the coast and is one of the county's biggest towns so there’s no shortage of things to do and St Austell holiday cottages to meet your needs. Like many places in Cornwall, St Austell started out as an important mining town. However in the 1700’s something happened which really put the town on the map. A chemist from Devon discovered massive deposits of china clay in the area, a special mineral used in the production of porcelain, pharmaceuticals and textiles. The extraction of china clay became the focal point of local industry and the town has never looked back. Although the china clay industry is now in decline due to cheaper foreign sources now being used, the industry has left its mark on the landscape around the town. Known as the Cornish Alps, St Austell is littered with spoils from abandoned clay pits which form large white mounds around the town. It’s just one aspect of the area’s unique countryside and if you feel like a change from your St Austell holiday accommodation, then you’ll find camping is also a great way to experience St Austell. Visitors looking for a great day grip could also venture off to the Eden Project which is just 5 minutes drive away from some of our holiday cottages. St Austell has become a household name worldwide because of the attraction, which showcases plants and wildlife from tropical climates inside what essentially two giant greenhouses. Filling your days with fun isn’t difficult in St Austell. Take a look at our St Austell Holiday Cottages and find out for yourself.
